As a key leader of Michigan’s Muslim community, USCRI Detroit director Tawfik Alazem was invited to meet with Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow. This invitation was extended by Senator Stabenow to touch base on her work in the US Senate and to discuss issues of importance to the community and to hear firsthand about the impact of this Administration on the Muslim community in Michigan.
Alazem spoke about USCRI and the agency’s work, history, and long-standing dedication to protect and serve refugees. The two also discussed the impact of the current Administration’s actions on immigrants and refugees from the Middle Eastern community in the Dearborn and Detroit area. USCRI encouraged the Senator to keep her strong support for refugees and for family reunification. We emphasized for her to continue her hard work in the Senate and with the current administration in making sure our country’s door stays opened for the victim of wars and violence.
