On September 16th, USCRI Vermont will bring a youth delegation to attend the United Nations International Day of Peace as invited guests. The event will include an annual student video conference at the UN Headquarters in the morning featuring Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with U.N. Messengers of Peace Dr. Jane Goodall, Michael Douglas, Midori Goto, Leonardo DiCaprio and Stevie Wonder, along with women Nobel peace laureates, U.N. dignitaries and student peace presentations, lunch at the U.S. Mission to the UN and an afternoon conference (organized by the Jamaican Delegation) back at the UN. There will also be a live video feed from two U.N. Peacekeeping sites.
The USCRI Vermont youth delegation includes 50 youth ages 14-25 and chaperones in partnership with Children of the Earth including about 25 current and former clients, as well as youth from USCRI’s partnerships in Rutland, Morrisville and Vermont Commons School. The youth participated in a UN workshop and potluck before the trip. After the trip the group will share their experiences in several communities including Burlington, Rutland and Morrisville.
This is the 4th year that USCRI Vermont has attended the UN International Day of Peace.
