On Wednesday, October 11th USCRI Detroit Director Tawfik Alazem and Senator Gary Peters’s constituent services representative Zeina Djurovski met with two Afghani SIV refugees. The refugees arrived to the United States with their families few months earlier and were resettled by USCRI Detroit. The meeting took place at USCRI Detroit’s office in Dearborn. The gentlemen were very happy to meet with Senator Peters’s representative and speak about their journey and experience since their arrival in Michigan. They greatly appreciate the community and the agency support that they are receiving. They also spoke about their current jobs and the challenges that new arriving refugees face at the beginning. Despite the challenges that they have faced and speed bumps along the way, they are excited and hopeful for the future.
