A life changing gift has been made to USCRI Cleveland. The Geis Foundation, led by Fred Geis, a local Cleveland developer, has donated a four-apartment building with a storefront to USCRI, as well as the 1/2 acre lot next door. Over 200 staff from the Eaton Corporation have been working on this volunteer project to update and repair a dilapidated eyesore that was vacant for over a decade. In addition to rehabbing the building, they added a brick walkway and raised garden beds, planted fruit trees, blueberry bushes, and flowering plants, built picnic tables and benches, and even installed a picket fence on the property! The apartments are clean and furnished and the store front is ready for use. Future plans include the sale of fresh, local produce for the neighborhood using the storefront space.
One new Cleveland resident from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Esperanz, has already moved into an apartment and is ready to start her new live in safety and freedom. We are so grateful for this significant gift and the neighborhood development vision by the Geis Foundation. Learn more here.
