Earlier this year, USCRI Erie organized a ceremony for new Americans. Forty-nine new citizens stood at the end of this citizenship and naturalization ceremony. For many of these people, this is the final step and the culmination of a journey long in the making.
The Erie region’s immigrant population is increasing, while the overall population is declining according to the US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates. More than 10,000 people moved out of Erie County during a six-year stretch between April 2010 and July 2016. In that time, nearly 3,900 refugees and immigrants from across the world migrated here. This have given the county a much needed economic boost and preventing the population decline from being much worse.
