USCRI Policy Brief: The Most Pressing Humanitarian Needs of 2023

December 13, 2022

Five humanitarian emergencies—Afghanistan, the Syria regional crisis, Yemen, Ukraine, and Ethiopia—make up nearly half of all funding requirements in the 2023 Global Humanitarian Overview, the United Nations’ assessment of worldwide humanitarian needs for the coming year.

For this Policy and Advocacy brief, Policy Analyst Daniel Salazar provides updates on these five crises and policy recommendations related to the forced displacement challenges they have created.

All five of these humanitarian emergencies are also significant displacement crises and are some of the most vexing challenges in forced displacement worldwide. USCRI supports pathways and protections that allow individuals and families affected by these crises to relocate in safety and dignity in neighboring countries or in the United States.
