Policy Brief: Defining Humanitarian Statuses

In anticipation of World Refugee Day, in this week’s Policy and Advocacy Report, policy analyst Aaron Nodjomian-Escajeda examines the legal definitions of various types of humanitarian protections.

While there are different technical definitions of the various types of humanitarian protections for displaced individuals, this World Refugee Day, instead of focusing on what is a lawful pathway, let us remember, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that “everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”
