USCRI STAFF HIGHLIGHT CENTRAL AMERICAN INTEGRATION EFFORTS AT MIRPS FORUMS

September 11, 2025

The MIRPS is a coordinated response framework for forced displacement, supporting the protection of and search for durable solutions for forcibly displaced persons and their host communities in Central America and Mexico. As part of its ongoing commitment to advocacy for displaced people in the region, USCRI staff participated in two meetings with the Regional Technical Teams (ETR) of the MIRPS on the topics of “Employment and Livelihoods” and “Local Governance.”

The team attended a session where civil society organizations shared best practices on labor integration programs. The objective was to identify opportunities for interinstitutional collaboration and strategic alliances to strengthen access to formal employment, entrepreneurship, and job training for displaced populations. During this session, USCRI presented the work of REDII in El Salvador and Honduras to the ETR on Employment, Livelihoods, and Local Governance. They also exchanged insights with other civil society organizations across MIRPS countries, documenting innovative practices. Notably, a representative from a Guatemalan municipality expressed interest in USCRI’s initiatives and requested to explore potential future collaboration.

The team also participated in the first of four planned training sessions, which introduced the organizational and operational structure of MIRPS and outlined the four priority areas of action under Costa Rica’s 2025 presidency. The session also highlighted the role of the Support Platform led by the Colombian government.

The overall objective was to strengthen the Dialogue Mechanism between Civil Society Organizations and Refugee-led Organizations by deepening participants’ understanding of MIRPS, its connection to asylum systems, and by developing tools and advocacy skills for engaging with States. Additionally, the training emphasized capacity-building for managing projects that promote the self-sustainability of organizations.
