Webinar: USCRI and ChildFund – Refugee Children in Kenya

November 5, 2025

Refugee children in Kenya continue to face serious protection and wellbeing challenges. Many live without parental care, struggle to access education and healthcare, and are exposed to risks such as child labor, early marriage, and exploitation. These challenges persist across camps and urban areas, affecting their safety and long-term development.

In response to these critical needs, the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) and ChildFund are hosted a joint webinar to present findings from a recent needs assessment conducted in Turkana, Garissa and Nairobi counties.

The assessment, conducted earlier this year, focused on unaccompanied and separated children in Kakuma, Dadaab and Nairobi. The findings highlight widespread protection concerns, including child labor, abuse, neglect, early marriage, and sexual exploitation.

Speakers included:

· Victoria Walker, Policy Analyst, USCRI

· Issa Kipera (PhD), Acting Country Director, ChildFund Kenya

· Jesús Silva Vega, Humanitarian Advisor, ChildFund International

· Edwin Ochieng, Executive Director, Move on Africa Ltd (Consultant)

. Taylor McNaboe, Director of International Programs, USCRI
