August 25 marks the anniversary of the genocidal attacks perpetuated by Myanmar’s military junta in 2017, which forced nearly 700,000 Rohingya to flee to neighboring Bangladesh. Six years later, Rohingya continue to face protection and security concerns.
On August 23, 2023, USCRI hosted a webinar “Examining Continued Protection Concerns for Rohingya Refugees” to discuss these issues with four distinguished speakers:
James Rodehaver, Chief, Myanmar Team, UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR);
John Quinley, Director of Fortify Rights;
Abdul Hamid, Rohingya refugee and Refugee Congress Delegate for Wisconsin; and
Dr. Nahreen Ahmed, Medical Director, MedGlobal.

The event was moderated by USCRI policy analyst Aaron Nodjomian-Escajeda, who visited Rohingya refugee camps in December 2022 and published “A Glimpse at Camp Life in Cox’s Bazar: Examining Aid Response and Distilling Solutions,” in April 2023.
