USCRI Applauds Introduction of Afghan Adjustment Act in Congress

By USCRI August 10, 2022

The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) applauds the introduction of an Afghan Adjustment Act in both houses of the 117th Congress. This piece of legislation will provide resettled Afghans with a pathway to lawful permanent resident status. Since the fall of the Afghan government in Kabul one year ago, Afghans relocated to the United States have faced incredible challenges, including uncertainty over their residency and work status in the United States. USCRI’s network around the country successfully resettled over ten thousand Afghans and their families. We are excited to see a bipartisan solution for tens of thousands of resettled Afghan parolees, many of whom risked their lives to serve alongside U.S. and coalition forces during the war.

USCRI will continue to advocate for changes to help our Afghan allies, from reducing waiting times for critical work authorization documents to ensuring unaccompanied Afghan minors get the care and support they need. An Afghan Adjustment Act is an essential step in this ongoing effort. We urge Congress and the Administration to pass this long overdue legislation swiftly.

USCRI, founded in 1911, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit international organization committed to working on behalf of refugees and immigrants and their transition to a dignified life.
