Introducing Dream Keepers: Monthly Support for Unaccompanied Refugee Girls

May 27, 2026

Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya is home to over 300,000 refugees. For the unaccompanied girls living there, daily life means navigating hunger, exploitation, and the near-constant threat of child marriage and violence. Drastic cuts to humanitarian funding have stripped away basic services, leaving some of the most vulnerable children without food, school supplies, or menstrual hygiene products.

USCRI Kenya’s Keep Girls Dreaming initiative has long worked to change this. Now, we’re inviting you to be part of the solution. This week, USCRI launches Dream Keepers — a monthly giving program that provides consistent, life-changing support to unaccompanied girls in Kakuma throughout the year.

Two sisters — just 14 and 15 — fled Burundi alone, searching for safety and their father. When they arrived in Kakuma, he was gone. A woman already stretched thin took them in anyway. Then thieves stole the family’s entire food supply, forcing them to start over once again.

Still, they are determined to stay in school and build a better future. With the right support, girls like them can move from survival to possibility.

A monthly gift of $30 makes that possible — providing menstrual hygiene products, food, school supplies, and protection services to girls like these two sisters all year long.

“Girls have hope thanks to the generosity of donors, both big and small, who care about refugees and believe in girls’ empowerment. The Dream Keepers program is an open invitation to all who wish to join us in supporting these girls.”  — Firdaus Bashee, USCRI Kenya Country Director

As a Dream Keeper, you’ll receive monthly updates directly from USCRI Kenya staff, volunteers, and the girls themselves: a window into life in Kakuma and the real difference your support is making. Despite alarming cuts in global humanitarian assistance, USCRI remains committed to these girls. We cannot do this without you.

Become a Dream Keeper today
