Overcoming Transportation Challenges

By USCRI August 17, 2023

This summer, a USCRI Dearborn client from Afghanistan found himself in jeopardy of losing his job. He could not obtain his own car and public transit was unable to take him all the way. Our field director Tawfik Alazem sprang into action and worked to provide our client with a $250.00 Uber gift card.

Mr. Alazem, as well as our health and wellness manager Hameedullah Ahmadzai knew that this Uber gift card was only a temporary fix, so they referred our client to the United Way of Michigan and their program ‘Ride United’. Thankfully, the client qualified for the program and was able to receive a $1,000.00 Uber gift card.

‘Ride United’ is a program funded by General Motors through the United Way of Michigan to provide Uber and Lyft gift cards to individuals without access to their own modes of transportation. It allows those who qualify to attend jobs, interviews and any necessary appointments they might have.

This generous program ensured our client with a reliable way to get to work and the ability to prosper at his new job. Each case at USCRI Dearborn is different and our staff is always ready to provide assistance in every way we can.
