USCRI Cleveland: Reprise 2024

December 5, 2024

In October, USCRI Cleveland held its annual benefit concert, reprise, featuring international musical acts and food from Northeast Ohio’s refugee community. The event attracted over 300 guests and raised over $60,000 for the field office.

Artists included Rahim AlHaj, an Iraqi oud musician and composer, and Emmanuel Jal, a South Sudanese rapper, singer, actor, activist, and public speaker.

Our goal was to create an event that highlighted the tremendous contribution newcomers bring to our lives, the region and the country, and specifically focus upon the resiliency of the refugee community. The ability for individuals to re-emerge after suffering a cycle of forced displacement and resettlement to a new country, often leaving their family, their lives and their possessions behind, embodies this spirit. There are even fewer who can express these experiences through various art forms and moreover reach the level of a professional artist. We felt this achievement deserves to be celebrated. The welcoming community of northeast Ohio showed up not only to enjoy in the evening’s festivities, but to offer their tremendous support in favor of our mission.
