Donation Campaign by the UDEM Committee at the Casanicolás Shelter

April 9, 2025

This month, students from the USCRI RECIBE Committee at the UDEM delivered this month’s donations to the Casanicolás shelter as part of their permanent campaign to support forcibly displaced people in their city. On this occasion, they were able to collect and deliver 100 articles of clothing, a pair of tennis shoes, and five packages of sanitary napkins, thanks to the generous contributions from their university community.

These monthly deliveries are made in coordination with the committee’s partner shelters according to their present needs. The significance of these deliveries extends beyond the simple distribution of goods: students make a point of spending quality time with shelter residents to display solidarity and show them a slice of Mexican hospitality. The activity this time around at the Casanicolás shelter was the traditional Mexican board game Lotería (Lottery). While these activities may be brief, they plant seeds of mutual understanding which may flower into lasting coexistence.

The continued commitment the RECIBE Committee makes to serving dispossessed populations is a reflection of the positive impact that organized student action can have on the communities that need it most.
