R-SEAT and USCRI organize a roundtable dialogue with COMAR, UNHCR, refugee leaders, civil society and Refugee-Led Organizations.

April 3, 2026

In recent weeks, R-SEAT and USCRI organized a panel discussion in Mexico City titled “Participation and Protection of Refugees in Mexico”, within the framework of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. The panel included 35 participants, refugee leaders, representatives from the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR), UNHCR, civil society and Refugee-Led Organizations.

This forum addressed the current situation in Mexico regarding the protection and participation of refugees. Furthermore, the dialogue strengthened relationships between institutional actors and representatives of refugees.

Given a challenging international context, this dialogue reinforced the need for institutional and intersectional work hand in hand with refugees and asylum seekers to build sustainable practices for guaranteeing intentional protection in Mexico.

We thank all the leaders, organizations, and representatives who joined us, and we will continue working together to ensure that the meaningful participation of refugees in Mexico is consolidated.
