Stand Up for Refugees Today: Support the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program

February 3, 2025

There are more than 43 million refugees worldwide, and the need for action has never been more urgent. Refugees have fled war, ethnic cleansing, and unimaginable suffering, holding on to the hope that countries like the United States will offer safety and an opportunity for a second chance at life.

Yet recent executive actions have indefinitely suspended the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, dismantling a program that has been in place for nearly 45 years. Since 1980, the United States has safely resettled over three million refugees. This sudden renunciation of responsibility jeopardizes the lives of countless refugees and U.S. moral leadership in offering safety to those in need.

We can’t allow this to continue. The Lady Liberty Act provides a pathway to restore the refugee program, reaffirming our nation’s responsibility to protect the world’s most vulnerable. Now more than ever, we need you to act.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Contact your members of Congress and urge them to support the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and the Lady Liberty Act (H.R. 4156).
  2. Share the stories of refugees—real people whose lives are threatened—and the impact these programs have on their futures.
  3. Donate Todayrefugees.org/donate

As an organization, USCRI remains steadfast in its vision: ensuring that refugees, immigrants, and uprooted people live dignified lives with their rights respected and protected in communities of opportunity. Together, we can ensure that refugees and displaced people are not forgotten and that the systems built to help them remain strong.
