USCRI Mexico Hosts Teacher Workshop on Interculturalism in Migrant Communities

March 9, 2026

The USCRI Mexico team recently delivered the workshop “Interculturality in the Classroom as a Learning Barrier: Identification and Strategies” at Bosques International School in the city of Aguascalientes. The session was conducted for teachers from kindergarten through high school.

During the workshop, educators learned about USCRI’s experience working with refugee youth and the challenges they face while integrating into life in Mexico. Through interactive activities, case studies, and group discussions, participants deepened their understanding of the migration experience and its impact on children and adolescents.

The session also promoted intercultural, empathetic, and inclusive practices within both educational and family environments. Participants were encouraged to view migration as a human experience, rather than solely as a social phenomenon.

Key messages shared during the workshop included:

  • Migration does not define a person’s abilities.
  • Adaptation is not solely the responsibility of people in situations of mobility.
  • Schools can become spaces of healing—or spaces of exclusion.
  • Interculturality is built through everyday actions.

USCRI extends its gratitude to Bosques International School for the invitation and for serving as a partner in promoting intercultural understanding and the inclusion of migrant communities in Aguascalientes. USCRI remains committed to working with educational institutions to help build welcoming communities through the active participation of all sectors of society.
